Telling the story of drought resistant maize

African farmers are well aware of a changing climate. But food researchers say they are less sure of what to do about it.

To address that need, researchers at the Global Center for Food Systems Innovation developed and distributed a video that tells the story of drought resistant maize.

Alison Rose and her team from Columbia University have developed Soil Doc, a large tool kit that can be taken to the field to test for nutrients and help farmers make fertilizer decisions.

Now they’re integrating that data with climate information to help deliver the best prescription for individual fields.

Plastic is used for food packaging because it is widely available and cheap. But some plastics are not recyclable.

Chris Wilson, a masters student in the School of Packaging at Michigan State University, studies how to make food packaging that keeps food fresh and protects the environment. His research could improve food security around the globe.
